I recently did a Q&A webinar for freelance copywriters. Here are the questions I answered…

Do you have advice on how to scale as a copywriter/business owner – so you can scale back on the time spent churning out copy? (i.e., courses, coaching etc)

How can I market myself as a copywriter and journalist in parallel?

If I’m telescoping, should I provide my own brief to a client? If the company isn’t actually actively looking for someone, they may not have anything in mind?

Would you ever work with public relations companies, with all their clients? It’s not the same industry/skillset, but there is some overlap. Thank you

How do you handle over-analysis when writing? I often have lots of ideas that result in a blockage!

How do you know when to walk away from a client? Or a pitch.

Obviously it depends on the nature of what you’re doing but could you give an example of a typical job that might take you a day, what that might involve and how much you would charge?

Any advice for better managing peaks, troughs and cashflow, especially as AI is taking business?

This is a bit of a burnout question…. Any advice for managing burnout / tiredness to still think creatively and be proactive in quiet times?

Who actually are the gatekeepers? Are you usually working for a company’s in-house marketing team, or an external agency? Does it matter?

I haven’t really had much success attracting copywriting work, so how best should I go about attracting clients?

Presumably any company that can pay the rates we’ve discussed is quite established and already has a copy person/team? Do you find yourself replacing existing copywriters?

What are the key differences/similarities between a copywriter and a content writer? I keep seeing job posts which have both in the title.

How would you recommend approaching agencies for white-label work?

Got a question of your own? Get in touch.

P.S. You’ll find the answers to the questions I’m most often asked in my book, Copywriting Q&A, available on Amazon.
